You don't always need to depend on online favicon designers to create a good favicon for your website. If website is an identity for you or your business, favicon or favorites icon or shortcut icon is an identity for your website. A favicon represents your website in almost all web 2.0 integrations and posts. 

In my earlier article on favicon I explained how to convert your logos into favicons. But this article could help even a starter website owner to create a professional favicon for his/her website.

The best favicon is nothing more than a beautifully detailed image of your logo or emblem. It should be expressed in the maximum colors and pixels rather than showing in suppressed colors and pixel-view. 

You need not be a graphic designer to create a good quality favicon. If you can create your own favicons using online favicon designers (I too have used the same years back), you should be confident enough to use the simple MS-Paint software on your Windows operating system or equalent on Linux/Mac systems. If you already have your logo image, that'd be pretty good. But if you don't have, create a blank image of size 100 pixels by 100 pixels (100x100), or even bigger. Take care it should not be too big, otherwise you'll loose much details when we shrink it to an icon size.

On your blank image on MS-Paint, you can now draw your imaginations, create shapes, add colors, write texts, make corrections and redo, till you are satisfied with your logo design. Take care to save copies while you develop various versions, and ultimately you'll landup in a logo as per your imagination.
